Over a month has passed since the fire tragedy at the Modern Furniture Pacific workshop in Ruiru, but the fate of 32-year-old carpenter Joseph Ng’ang’a Muhia remains unclear.
On December 18 last year, a devastating fire broke out, causing millions of shillings in damage.
Amid the destruction, Muhia went missing, and despite ongoing efforts, his whereabouts are still unknown.
Muhia’s family and friends are growing more concerned by the day and are calling for a thorough investigation into his disappearance.
They believe that Muhia may have tragically died in the fire, but the local Ruiru Police Station, where the missing person report was filed, has been slow to take action.
Gibson Murage, the founder of Modern Furniture Pacific, has repeatedly stated that no human remains were found at the scene, only the partially charred body of a dog.

According to Murage, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ Forensics Department examined the remains before they were disposed of.
Despite this explanation, Muhia’s family remains unconvinced. They firmly believe that he was present during the fire and may have perished in the blaze.
Muhia, a father of two, had worked at the company for nearly two years and was well known in the community.
Family members point to multiple reports from individuals who claim Muhia didn’t escape the fire, and they are calling on authorities to investigate these leads further.
“We don’t believe the dog story,” said Wilson Mburu, Muhia’s uncle. “When Murage visited our home last week under pressure to address the death rumours, we confronted him. We asked him about the whispers we’ve heard and the way the authorities are handling this case.”

Muhia’s mother, Esther Wambui, is desperate for answers. “If he is dead, I just want to lay him to rest and find peace,” she said.
Murage has acknowledged the ongoing speculation that Muhia may have died in the fire, but stands by his company’s version of events.
“There are claims we’re hiding the truth. The burnt dog was found by Kiambu county firefighters. It had wandered in during the rescue efforts from nearby herders,” he explained.
Joseph Ng’ang’a Murage went missing after the tragedy.
As the mystery deepens, Muhia’s family continues to explore alternative ways to uncover the truth and get the closure they desperately seek.
