Joel Njenga Mungai, popularly known as MC Gitoero from MediaMax Limited’s Kameme FM, was left stunned on Wednesday after he was removed from a local WhatsApp group.
Though Gitoero is a well-known figure in his home village of Kandara and across the Kikuyu community for co-hosting popular radio shows, his village mates wasted no time in kicking him out of the group for what they viewed as a betrayal of its purpose.
The WhatsApp group, with over 300 members, was formed by residents of Ngirima village in Muruka, Kandara, Murang’a County, to seek justice for Joseph Ng’ang’a Muhia, an employee of Modern Furniture Pacific who went missing after a fire at the company’s Ruiru branch on December 18 last year.
Gitoero, who is a neighbour of Muhia, came under suspicion after villagemates believed he had been passing information to sympathisers and the management of Modern Furniture Pacific regarding their plans.

There are claims that Muhia perished in the fire, and his family and the community suspect that the company, with help from authorities, is covering up the truth.
However, the company’s founder, Gibson Murage, has strongly denied these allegations, and authorities have remained silent on the matter.
Last week, journalists visited Muhia’s family for interviews, and it was alleged that Gitoero later tipped off the company about it.

A member of the WhatsApp group told Bigstar News: “He may be a big name out there, but here at home, we won’t tolerate him. We’re in pain, but instead of standing with us, he’s sharing our plans with those people.”
Before being removed from the group, Gitoero was met with harsh words from the members.
