University stakeholders across the country have been urged to enhance practical training for media and film students to ensure they gain adequate field exposure before entering the job market.
Speaking during an interview, Miss Faith Mukundi, Managing Director of Newsline Media and Training Agency, said the initiative would help inspire and prepare the next generation of media professionals.
She emphasized the organization’s commitment to equipping students with technical and practical skills that align with industry demands, while bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world experience.
“It is necessary that whatever is learnt in theory needs to be practical,” she said.

Mukundi noted that Newsline Media’s mission is to empower young professionals through hands-on training, mentorship, and industry attachment programmes that connect academic theory with industry innovation.
She further observed that the rise of digital media has made information more accessible, with citizen journalism playing a key role in how content is created and consumed.
However, she pointed out that a lack of adequate practical resources in universities and colleges remains a major challenge, limiting students’ exposure to real production environments.
“This limits the number of students that can be enrolled for a single programme at our centre, forcing us to further postpone our subsequent intake,” she said.
Mukundi also acknowledged that one of the initial challenges in establishing the attachment centre was uncertainty over public acceptance. Despite this, she noted that the initiative has since impacted more than 200 professionals across various fields in media and communication.
