Jubilee Party has officially endorsed Fred Matiang’i, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary, as its presidential candidate for Kenya’s 2027 General Election.

The announcement was made by Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni during a leadership meeting in Narok, signaling the party’s resolve to challenge the current government.

Kioni expressed full confidence in Matiang’i’s ability to unseat President William Ruto, reiterating the party’s commitment to bring about a change in leadership.

“As Jubilee, we have chosen our candidate: Fred Matiang’i. He will compete against others to ensure Ruto is sent packing,” Kioni declared.

He further stressed the importance of unity among opposition forces, adding, “If we unite and vote together, Ruto won’t stand a chance, no matter who he appoints, even if it’s Kimani Ichung’wa or Kamket as the IEBC Chairperson. We must all agree that his supporters are not the right people for this country.”

Kioni underscored the need for collective action to secure victory in the upcoming elections, emphasizing that a unified front would be crucial to defeating the current administration.

This endorsement comes amid speculation that former President Uhuru Kenyatta, still the leader of Jubilee, is backing Matiang’i as a potential challenger to Ruto’s growing influence.

Matiang’i played a key role in the government under Kenyatta’s leadership, he commands considerable influence in strategic regions across the country.
