Renowned sports journalist Elias Makori has been appointed Press Delegate and Media Liaison Officer by World Athletics (WA), taking on a key role in overseeing media operations for select one-day events hosted by the global track and field governing body.
Makori, 54, who previously served as Sports Editor at Nation Media Group, confirmed the appointment, revealing that he will serve as Press Delegate for the World Athletics Wanda Diamond League and as Media Liaison for the World Athletics Continental Tour series.
In his new capacity, Makori will play an integral role in preparing the Media Guidelines for the Wanda Diamond League in 2025.
He will also travel to various Diamond League and Continental Tour meetings throughout the year as assigned by World Athletics.
In addition to his new role, Makori has recently been appointed to the Steering Committee for the 2025 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he is managing media operations for both tournaments.
Makori’s extensive career includes serving as the National Press Officer and Head of Media for the WRC Safari Rally (2021-2024), as well as Press Officer for the Kip Keino Classic World Athletics Continental Tour (2021-present).

A graduate with a Masters in Sports Management from the Cruyff Institute in Barcelona, Makori spent 32 years with Nation Media Group, where he was recognized twice as Employee of the Year (2008 and 2012).
He has also been named Kenya’s Sports Journalist of the Year three times (2000, 2014, and 2022).
His achievements have earned him international recognition, including being named Africa Media Personality of the Year by The Voice magazine in both 2019 and 2024.
In 2023, he was honoured as Africa Journalist of the Year by the International Boxing Association (IBA).
