Amorim’s harsh words for Rashford raise questions over his United career

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has suggested he would rather give a spot on the bench to his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach, Jorge Vital, than England forward Marcus Rashford, citing a lack of effort from the player.

Rashford, who has not featured in a matchday squad for United in six weeks, was once again excluded for the team’s 1-0 victory over Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.

With the transfer window closing on February 3, questions are being raised about Rashford’s future at the club.

Amorim criticized Rashford for not displaying the work ethic of a player “giving the maximum every day.” The manager explained, “It’s always the same reason – the training, the way I see a footballer should approach life. It’s every day, every detail.”

He added, “If things don’t change, I won’t change. It’s the same for every player—if you give your maximum and do the right things, you’ll be in the squad.” Amorim further emphasized, “You can see on the bench we miss a bit of pace, but I would put Vital before a player who doesn’t give the maximum every day.”

Sources close to Rashford, however, insist the 27-year-old has no issues with Amorim and remains willing to play for the club.

Rashford’s hopes of a move to AC Milan have reportedly been dashed after the arrival of Kyle Walker, as Milan can only sign one English player this month.

Meanwhile, a potential loan move to Barcelona depends on the departure of a couple of players, but neither Eric Garcia nor Ansu Fati seems likely to leave Camp Nou anytime soon.
