Tanzanian club Singida Black Stars has formally requested a refund from Gor Mahia for the transfer fee paid last year for defender Rooney Onyango.
Singida Black Stars showed interest in signing the right-back late last year. After obtaining approval from both Gor Mahia and Onyango, the club proceeded with the payment of the transfer fee.
Although the exact amount remains undisclosed, it is believed that the agreed sum was around USD 40,000 (about Ksh 5million).
Gor Mahia also began searching for a replacement for Onyango, with Fredrick Alushula of Kariobangi Sharks and Sofapaka’s Baron Ochieng among the top contenders.
Earlier this week, Gor Mahia Secretary-General Sam Ochola confirmed that an agreement had been reached for Onyango’s departure in January, with a replacement already in place for the player, who previously played for Wazito.

However, Onyango denied this, insisting that he would not be joining Singida. He told Mozzart Sport that he had rejected the offer and had no intention of reconsidering his decision.
As a result, Singida Black Stars has now demanded the full refund of the transfer fee but Gor Mahia management is yet to respond publicly on the matter.
