Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has signed a short-term contract with Scottish Championship club Dunfermline Athletic FC until the end of the season.
The club confirmed the move, stating that the 33-year-old midfielder’s arrival is subject to international clearance.
“DAFC are delighted to announce the signing of Kenyan international, Victor Wanyama, on a deal until the end of the season, subject to international clearance,” the statement read.
Wanyama had been without a club since departing Canadian side Montreal CF in November last year.
At Dunfermline, he will reunite with Neil Lennon, his former manager at Celtic, where he played from 2011 to 2013 and made notable appearances in the UEFA Champions League.
One of his most memorable moments came in 2012, when he scored in Celtic’s famous 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League.
Following his time at Celtic, Wanyama moved to Southampton in 2013, where he solidified his place in the Premier League before transferring to Tottenham Hotspur. There, he followed his former coach Mauricio Pochettino to North London.
After five years at Spurs, Wanyama joined Montreal CF, where he played 117 matches and netted five goals.
Wanyama’s experience is expected to boost Dunfermline’s efforts to improve their performance in the Scottish Championship.
The club, which has won the Scottish Cup twice, is currently struggling, having recently lost 2-0 to local rivals Raith Rovers on March 12.
