Two prime suspects have been arrested in connection with a daring Sh17.6 million burglary at a godown in Atlantic Business Park, Embakasi, after detectives from Embakasi Police Station acted on a crucial tip-off.
According to a report filed at Mombasa Road Police Station, employees of Aetlantiq Group Limited were shocked to discover that Godown No. 16 and No. 17 had been broken into when they returned to work after the Easter holidays. Assorted high-value electronics and other goods had been stolen.
Investigations revealed that a gang armed with crude weapons had accessed the premises by cutting through the iron sheet roof, allowing them to strategically reach both the accounts office and storeroom.
Among the stolen items were 363 units of 43-inch Hisense TVs, 20 units of 20-inch HB TVs, 11 HS 218 soundbars, four HP laptops, mobile phones, desktop computers, school bags, spare parts, and CCTV servers.
Alarmingly, a team of security guards who responded to the triggered alarm failed to alert the police and have since gone into hiding, raising suspicions of possible collusion.
A meticulous forensic investigation led detectives to a hideout at the Scorpion Den Hotel in Ruai, where they apprehended James Macharia Mwangi and his accomplice Keriko Wanjama.
A significant portion of the stolen goods was recovered at the scene, including: 269 units of 43-inch Hisense TVs, 65 units of 55-inch Hisense A6 TVs, 2 units of 65-inch Hisense Q6 TVs, 8 units of 58-inch Hisense A6 TVs, 7 units of 32-inch Hisense A4 TVs, 4 units each of 40-inch and 50-inch Hisense TVs, Aiwa SB 8320 and SB 2031 speakers, 11 sets of HS 218 soundbars and Additional assorted items.
Police also recovered a white Mitsubishi FH truck loaded with the stolen goods.
The suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment.
