Mercy Masai, the Communications Director of the Kenya Judo Federation (KJF), has responded to accusations suggesting she manipulated the team selection process to secure a spot on the recent trip to Europe.
The controversy erupted after Masai, often referred to as a “city slay queen,” shared photos from her trip to Europe on her X account, coupled with insults aimed at those questioning her right to join the Kenyan team on their journey to Georgia for the Grand Slam 2025.
Masai quickly dismissed the allegations, attributing them to jealousy, and reaffirmed that her position in the federation was legitimate, having been earned through an electoral process.
In response, the Kenya Judo Federation issued an official statement defending Masai.

“As the Kenya Judo Federation, we recognize and appreciate Mercy Masai for her dedication as Communications Director.
Her contributions have played a significant role in promoting judo,” the federation wrote on X.
They also emphasized that her role is crucial for the sport’s growth and development.
