Three individuals who were arrested for allegedly throwing a shoe toward President William Ruto during a public event in Migori have been released without charges after investigations determined the act was unintentional.
The incident took place on May 4 during the launch of a 200-unit affordable housing project in Kehancha, Kuria West Constituency, as part of the President’s ongoing three-day working tour of Migori County.
Security personnel responded swiftly, apprehending three individuals suspected of involvement in the incident.
However, after a thorough examination of multiple video recordings, investigators found no evidence of deliberate intent to target the President.
According to the investigation findings, the shoe was reportedly obstructing someone’s view, prompting another individual to push it aside. This action inadvertently caused the shoe to fly in the direction of the President.
Local leaders, including religious figures, condemned the incident as disrespectful and inappropriate.
They called on members of the public to uphold decorum during official functions and to support development efforts taking place in the region.
