President William Ruto has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the allocation of affordable housing units across the country will be conducted fairly, transparently, and without discrimination.
During an inspection tour of the Kibera Soweto East Zone B Affordable Housing Project in Nairobi’s Kibra Constituency on Friday, the President assured residents that the housing initiative will serve all Kenyans equally, regardless of their ethnicity or background.
“I assure you that allocations will not be done along ethnic lines. All deserving Kenyans will benefit equally because we are committed to building a united nation,” said Ruto.
The Soweto East Zone B project comprises 4,600 housing units, and the President announced plans to expand the effort with the construction of 25,000 additional units in Kibera under the national affordable housing program.
“Kibera was once known as the largest slum in Africa. Through this program, we are determined to transform it into Africa’s largest dignified residential estate,” he stated.
Ruto also revealed that enumeration is ongoing in Soweto Zones C and D, where over 10,000 residents will be supported to relocate in preparation for the next phase of development.
He emphasized that existing residents will be prioritized when the new housing units are allocated.
“You have my word—Kibera residents will be first in line to own these homes before anyone else is considered,” he said.
On a national scale, the President reported that more than 150,000 affordable housing units are currently under construction across 200 sites. The program has also created employment opportunities for over 200,000 young Kenyans.

In a move to improve community amenities, President Ruto directed the immediate upgrade of the Undugu playground in Kibera to enhance recreational facilities for local youth.
The President was accompanied by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor (Jalang’o), and local Members of County Assembly, among other leaders.
