President William Ruto on Tuesday began a tour of the Coast region, covering Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu counties, as he seeks to consolidate political support in an area long perceived as an opposition stronghold.

The Head of State was accompanined by local leaders. His visit to the various locations reaffirm government commitment to delivering development agendas, and the approval of the two major political parties, UDA and ODM.

While addressing the public in several rallies, President Ruto encouraged the Coast residents to take a leaf from the development politics book rather than dividing themselves along the lines of their ethnic membership or personal political dislikes. He acknowledged the commitment of his government to unite the country around shared economic and social progress.

President also disclosed the great strides government has made in the education sector. Most importantly, he pointed out that government has so far issued more than Sh40 billion for learning institutions throughout the country.

He cautioned school managers against defying government directives by turning students away, and highlighted that access to education will remain governments number one priority.

During the tour, leaders appealed to the people of the Coast region to back the the broad-based government. They stressed that being in one accord and working with the national government, the region would be able to develop.

During the next few days, President Rutos tour of the Coast is expected to be on developing projects, political engagement and enhancing government presence in the area.
