Days after a section of Mt Kenya leadership endorsed Interior Security Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as the kingpin, he has commenced development tours of the region.
Elected leaders from the region endorsed Kindiki as their link with the executive, sparking off a supremacy battle.
With President William Ruto out of the country, it appears some powers have been delegated to the former Tharaka Nithi Senator.
On Monday he toured Kinangop, Nyandarua county to flag off the resumption of works on the 40.5 kilometres road project from Engineer to Chuma.
Kindiki was accompanied by Roads and Transport counterpart Davis Chirchir, Roads Principal Secretary Joseph Mbugua and Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku.
Kindiki said the project was part of the government’s programme to complete roads whose construction stalled due to funding constraints during the former administration.
The government he reiterated will also initiate new road projects crucial to the movement of people and goods under the programme, to expedite the country’s economic transformation.

This comes at a time it seems Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua have fallen out.
Gachagua and his allies are fighting an alleged plan to impeach him.
Mt Kenya region has split with a huge chunk of leaders supporting Kindiki as the kingpin.
In the last two weeks, elected leaders especially from Mt Kenya East (Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi counties) endorsed Kindiki.
The move received huge backing from elders, youths and MCAs even from the West (Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua and Kiambu counties).

The embattled DP has been left with a fragile camp as he fights to regain foothold in the vote-rich region.
