Ruben Amorim has been appointed as Manchester United’s new head coach, set to officially join the club on November 11 after completing his commitments with Sporting.
He has signed a contract that extends until June 2027, with the option for an additional year.
Amorim will make his managerial debut for United against Ipswich on November 24.
To facilitate his early release from a 30-day notice period, United has paid Sporting an extra €1 million (£840,000) on top of his €10 million (£8.4 million) exit clause.
He succeeds Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed last month, while Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to lead the team until Amorim’s arrival.
It is still uncertain whether Van Nistelrooy will be part of Amorim’s coaching staff.
Amorim was the club’s primary target and the only candidate interviewed during this recruitment process.
Significantly, he will be the first United head coach to officially carry the title of “head coach” rather than “manager.”
