Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has advised former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to retire from active politics if he fails to secure the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

Wamuchomba, an ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, expressed her backing for Raila’s bid ahead of this weekend’s crucial elections.

However, she made it clear that if Raila does not clinch the position, he should step aside and refrain from pursuing the presidency again in 2027.

“Let the elder get the job; Baba has been pursuing this position for a long time. He deserves a good retirement package at the AU,” the MP said.

She continued, “If he doesn’t get it, he should retire in Bondo. We’ll ensure he gets a proper retirement package as an ex-Prime Minister, but he shouldn’t run for president again.”

Wamuchomba emphasized the need for fresh leadership, criticizing leaders who have been in the political scene for decades, stating that they are part of Kenya’s ongoing challenges.

“We’ve decided that it’s time to give the older generation a break. We’ve given them over 40 years of chances. In the next election, we will elect a young President and a young woman Deputy President,” she declared.

She urged young people to remain focused and actively participate in shaping Kenya’s future, calling on all citizens to elect leaders capable of managing the country’s resources responsibly.
