Real Madrid manager Ancelotti set to become Brazil coach

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is expected to hold fresh talks with representatives of the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) over becoming Brazil’s head coach ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June.

The 65-year-old Italian, who described his future as “a topic for the next weeks,” could be approached to take the role once the Spanish season ends, potentially skipping this summer’s Club World Cup in the U.S.

Brazilian businessman Diego Fernandes, acting on behalf of the CBF, was seen at Real’s Copa del Rey final loss to Barcelona and is believed to be working to secure Ancelotti’s signature.

Ancelotti remains Brazil’s top target to replace Dorival Junior, who was sacked after a 4-1 loss to Argentina. Brazil currently sit fourth in South American qualifying but hope Ancelotti can boost their chances of winning the 2026 World Cup.

The CBF had previously failed to lure Ancelotti ahead of last year’s Copa America.

Despite a decorated tenure at Real Madrid, including three Champions League and two La Liga titles, Ancelotti’s side are trailing Barcelona in the league and were recently knocked out of the Champions League by Arsenal.

Former Real midfielder and current Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso is rumored to be in line to replace Ancelotti if he departs.
