SG new CEO Marion Gathoga with outgoing boss Joe Munene.

Standard Media group employees are hopeful things will improve as the new Chief Executive Officers takes charge.

Marion Gathoga reported to work at the Mombasa Road headquartered media house on Monday, barely a week after the Board of Management announced plans to sack over 300 employees.

Since August 1, a Transformation Team that was outsourced by the board last year to advise and assist in driving the company’s business transformation initiatives is said to be behind emails that have frightened the staff there.

The emails directed the employees to proceed to leave immediately and wait for communication from the management.

Subsequently, the affected staffs’ emails and gate pass systems were disabled.

Standard Media Group Centre, Nairobi.

While some have been recalled to help the editorial desk, others are waiting for communication that would save or render them jobless.

Ms Gathoga has succeeded Joe Munene, who had been holding the position in an acting capacity since July 6, 2023.

She was introduced to senior management and staff working in various departments at the SG centre.

She is taking over a time the company is in financial crisis and has since closed down KTN News, KTN Farmers TV and Burudani TV.

The board said the new CEO as an accomplished senior executive with over 26 years of local and international experience in commercial operations excellence and general management across multiple sectors.
