The Nyeri United Men’s Volleyball Team delivered an impressive performance at the recently concluded Kipchumba Karori International Tournament, which saw over 170 teams from across the country compete.
The Kenya Volleyball Federation commended the team for its commitment, led by Chairman Jacob Munene, in revitalizing volleyball in Nyeri County.
Nyeri United’s remarkable journey to the semi-finals included thrilling victories over Kakamega Kings in the Round of 32, Itigo in the Round of 16, and Kaiboi in the quarter-finals.
However, despite their strong run, the team was defeated by JEVIC in the semi-finals.
The team went on to compete in the third-place playoffs, ultimately finishing 4th and earning a cash prize of Ksh50,000.
The team’s success highlights the significant contributions of Mzee Kungu Maitu, whose passion and unwavering support for the sport have been instrumental in its development.
Both Maitu and Munene were recognized by the Federation for their ongoing efforts to strengthen volleyball in the region.
“Their dedication continues to lay a strong foundation for the sport and inspire the next generation of players,” the Federation stated.
