Nyandarua county government unveiled a Sh26 million apple farming initiative intended to diversify agriculture in the area.
Governor Kiarie Badilisha said the project is aimed at tapping into the increasing demand for locally farmed apples.
Kenyan market relies largely on imported apples especially from South Africa.
Badilisha noted that local production is gaining momentum in Nyandarua and this has prompted his administration to position the county as a key producer of the fruit.
He encouraged more farmers to adopt apple farming assuring that his government will offer the right support that will improve incomes and transform Nyandarua’s agricultural sector.
