New Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia chaired his first Cabinet meeting, which included members appointed by his predecessor, Kawira Mwangaza.
During the meeting, Governor Mutuma reassured the County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) and Chief Officers that their transition out of office would be smooth and free from harassment.
He emphasized that he has made efforts to motivate the officials, ensuring a seamless handover as he prepares to announce his new Cabinet soon.
Following the change in administration, the Meru County Assembly has also withdrawn impeachment motions against six of Mwangaza’s ten Cabinet members.
After his swearing-in on Monday, Governor Mutuma appealed to the Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to allow the CECMs to leave office with dignity, as they are constitutionally required to vacate when Mwangaza exits.
The officials previously targeted for impeachment included County Secretary Dr. Kiambi Atheru, Ibrahim Mutwiri (Finance), Thurania Ithana (Roads), Benjamin Mungania (Youth and Sports), and Dickson Munene (Legal Affairs).
Additionally, Jackson Muthamia (Water), Yusuf Kithure (Education), and Harriet Makena (Trade) faced censure motions.
The motions for removal were based on accusations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and incompetence.
Other allegations included failure to attend County Assembly sessions and neglecting critical issues within their ministries, raising concerns among residents about the county’s performance.
