It took persistent push by media for the debt-ridden logistical firm Multiple Hauliers East Africa Limited to pay one of its former employees his arrears.
Duncan Oyugi worked for the company for 18 years and when he left in December 2022, Multiple Hauliers owed him Sh1.3 million.
He struggled to get his pay without success but when he sought the help of The Nairobian newspaper, the company management surrendered.
The Standard Media Group-owned weekly newspaper runs “The Nairobian Defender”, a page dedicated to fight for helpless citizens.

Oyugi wrote to the defender in January 2023 and was lucky when the desk picked his case and started following up.
After the exposé and follow-ups called case Tracks, the Managing Director Rajinder Singh Baryan acted.
In October last year they started paying Oyugi in monthly instalments of Sh150, 000, clearing the whole amount last month.
“I am now relieved. I thought I would lose that money” a contented Oyugi was quoted by the newspaper.
