Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has strongly condemned the Sunday attack on Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, which took place just before the football match between Harambee Stars and Gabon at Nyayo Stadium.
Mudavadi criticized the political intolerance that led to the attack, stating that it undermines the core principles of Kenya’s democracy, which relies on the ability to engage with diverse viewpoints.
“What happened to Peter Salasya at Nyayo Stadium is deeply unfortunate. We may not always agree, and that’s okay. However, respect, dialogue, and unity must remain non-negotiable,” Mudavadi said.
He emphasized that respect must be both given and earned and stressed that only through unity can Kenyans build a stronger nation.
He cautioned that allowing division to take hold would jeopardize the future of the country.
“A house divided cannot stand. Let’s choose reason over chaos and maturity over noise. Kenya’s future depends on it,” the Prime Cabinet Secretary added.
During the incident, Salasya, who was attending the packed match between Harambee Stars and Gabon, was attacked by a group of rowdy youths. Viral videos captured Salasya being manhandled and pushed toward the stadium exit, while others threw objects at him. Some bystanders tried to shield him from the attack, with the crowd chanting, “Lazima aheshimu Raila,” meaning, “He (Salasya) must respect Raila.”
