Mohamed Salah believes he can continue playing professional football until the age of 40 and remains open to a future move to the Saudi Pro League.
The 32-year-old Liverpool forward enjoyed a standout season, scoring 29 goals and providing 18 assists as the Reds clinched the Premier League title.
Speaking to Egyptian TV channel ON Sports, Salah said: “I will stop playing when I feel it’s time. If you ask me, I think I can play until I’m 39 or 40. But if I feel like it’s time to go earlier, I will. I’ve already achieved a lot in my career.”
Salah revealed he had been in talks with Saudi Arabian clubs and was close to making a move before extending his contract at Anfield last month. Reports suggested he was in line for a deal worth over £500 million before opting to stay with Liverpool.
“My contract was up at Liverpool and I would have gone to Saudi, but we finalized a new deal with the club,” he explained.
Salah, who has scored 186 Premier League goals for Liverpool and Chelsea combined, is currently fifth on the league’s all-time top scorer list, just one goal behind Andrew Cole.
While his current contract runs until 2027, the Egypt international hasn’t ruled out a move to the Middle East afterward.
“I still have a good relationship with them and we keep in touch. Yes, we were talking,” he said, referring to Saudi clubs. “I don’t know what will happen, but I’m happy at Liverpool and will be here for the next two years. After that, we’ll see.”.
