Reputation of one of the fastest growing university-the Mount Kenya University (MKU)- is at stake over a tussle regarding some fees refund.
This is after a former student decided to come out guns blazing to get her Sh8, 400 fees refund held by the institution for six years now.
Beatrice Wughanga Mwawasi has challenged the integrity of MKU founded by astute businessman Prof Simon Gicharu.
She graduated from MKU, Mombasa Campus in August 2018 (Student Reg. No. DBIT/4***1/2016) but close to five years on they have not refunded her that money she paid in excess fees.
Beatrice has decided to raise the matter with the media after she was frustrated by the MKU finance office.
Though it is very, very little money for the institution to process, the institution has been taking her round in circles.
This to the public is shocking citing that the Prof Gicharu is seen as a man on integrity but apparently staff under him do not care how the expose may blot the reputation of the university.

“On following up, I was told the form was forwarded to MKU main campus in Thika and that they were processing the refund. That was in 2019 but since then they have not communicated” Beatrice says.
Adding; “At one point, I sought the help of the Ministry of Education but they could not intervene, as the institution is privately owned”.
She is now crying out for help. This will be a litmus test for the fastest growing institution.
Questions may be asked why MKU ignored their former student’s pleas? How will they explain the delay if they refund Beatrice and what should potential clients make of this case.
