Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma has nominated lawyer Linda Kiome to serve as his Deputy Governor. Kiome’s appointment is now subject to vetting and approval by the Meru County Assembly before she can officially assume office.
This nomination follows Governor Mutuma’s recent inauguration, which occurred after the impeachment of his predecessor, Kawira Mwangaza.
In January 2025, President William Ruto appointed Kiome as the Vice-Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Selection Panel, where she served alongside Nelson Makanda.
She later worked briefly as the legal advisor to Governor Mwangaza, but her professional relationship with Mwangaza soured, leading to her dismissal in April 2024.
Kiome entered politics in 2022 when former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi selected her as his running mate in the Meru gubernatorial race, where they secured second place behind Kawira Mwangaza.
Her legal career is notable, having served as the acting President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) after Nelson Havi’s ouster in January 2022.
Additionally, Kiome chaired the LSK Mt. Kenya caucus and served as a board member for both the Meru National Polytechnic and the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Kiome is the daughter of Samuel Kiome Rimbere, a former councilor and Meru’s first Member of County Assembly (MCA) for the Municipality Ward.
Following Mwangaza’s removal, Mutuma, who previously served as Meru County Assembly Speaker, was sworn in as the new Governor.
