KTN Swahili editor and news anchor Ali Manzu has been appointed by Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir to chair a nine-member task force focused on advising the county on the development of its creative economy.

In a statement shared with newsrooms, Governor Nassir announced that the committee would operate for six months, starting December 20, 2024, and will report directly to the county’s Executive Committee Member (CEC) for Youth, Sports, Gender, and Cultural Activities.

“By the authority vested in me by the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and the County Governments Act, I, Abdulswamad Sherrif Nassir, Governor of Mombasa County, hereby establish a task force to provide recommendations and advice on the Mombasa County Creative Economy.

The Taskforce shall serve for a period of six (6) months, effective from 20th December 2024,” the statement read in part.

Caroline Ngorobi will serve as Manzu’s deputy, while Esther Ingolo will take on the role of secretary. Other members of the task force include Awadh Salim, Hellen Mwanzia, Kessi Juma, Michel Jerry, Daudi Anguka, and Margaret Matunda.

The task force’s mandate includes evaluating the challenges facing the county’s creative economy, developing a transformative plan for the sector, and identifying roles for stakeholders.

It will also review existing programs for sustainability, craft a collaborative engagement strategy, and explore monetization opportunities within the creative sector.

Additionally, the team will assess the county’s marketing strategies and develop an actionable implementation plan to drive growth in Mombasa’s creative economy.
