Fortune Africa has released its highly anticipated “Top 40 Under 40 African Women” list, and Kenyan women have emerged as a dominant force.
Representing a significant portion of the honorees, they’ve underscored Kenya’s rising prominence in sectors like business, innovation, governance, and sustainability across the continent.
Leading the 2025 list is Aarti Takoorden of South Africa, who made headlines as the youngest Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of a company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).
Her achievement reflects the evolving face of corporate leadership in Africa—youthful, diverse, and bold.
Following closely is Uganda’s Phiona Nyamutoro, Minister of State for Energy, celebrated for her inclusive approach to energy policy and her advocacy for youth participation in governance.
Her Royal Highness Princess Sakhizwe of Eswatini also features prominently, using her royal platform to champion women’s economic empowerment and entrepreneurship in Southern Africa.
At number four is Olaedo Osaka, a Nigerian-born, London-based CEO whose strategic work is reshaping global perceptions of African brands. She is followed by Zimbabwe’s Tanya Rushesha, the innovative CEO of Elite Fields Mining and Tabula Rasa, lauded for her leadership in mining and philanthropic ventures.
Yet, it’s the Kenyan contingent that stole the spotlight. Their influence cuts across industries and causes, showcasing exceptional depth and leadership. Notable Kenyan honorees include:
- Jihan Abass, a pioneering force in insurtech and fintech
- Elizabeth Wathuti, internationally acclaimed environmentalist and climate advocate
- Wanjuhi Njoroge, social entrepreneur and youth empowerment advocate
- Lynnet Muritu, public health innovator
- Catherine Kiama, champion for gender policy and rights
- Phyllis Wakiaga, influential in manufacturing and public policy
- Hon. Naisula Lesuuda, Member of Parliament and advocate for girls’ education and rural development
According to Fortune Africa’s editorial board, this year’s honorees were selected not just for their influence, but for their tangible, lasting impact across their fields.
Each woman on the list is helping to reshape Africa’s narrative—on the continent and in the global diaspora.
The 40 Under 40 Women’s Edition is more than just a list; it’s a bold statement about Africa’s future—one that is being shaped by young, capable, visionary women.
As Kenyan women continue to lead with purpose and innovation, this recognition reinforces Kenya’s position as a regional powerhouse for leadership and transformative talent.
