The Government of Kenya has officially launched the Kenya National Carbon Registry (KNCR), a platform designed to enhance the country’s carbon market and climate action initiatives.
Principal Secretary for the State Department of Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Eng. Festus Ng’eno, confirmed that the registry has completed development, rigorous testing, and institutional validation through stakeholder engagement, user acceptance testing, and capacity-building programs led by National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).
The launch signifies the transition from development to full national operation, with the registry set to track emissions reductions, manage carbon credits, and support Kenya’s broader Climate Action Framework.
According to Dr. Ng’eno, the KNCR will serve as a cornerstone for climate governance in Kenya, enabling both public and private sector actors to participate in carbon trading, verify emission reductions, and contribute to national and global climate goals.
The Government emphasized that the registry strengthens Kenya’s leadership in climate action and positions the country as a regional model for carbon market management.
