Kelvin Kang’ethe suspected to have killed his girlfriend in US last year before fleeing to Kenya has been extradited to face trial in Boston tomorrow.
Body of Margaret Mbitu, 31, was discovered inside a vehicle at Boston’s Logan Airport in November 2023.
Kang’ethe was reportedly his lover.
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga’s approval, Kang’ethe was handed over to US government yesterday.
DPP Ingonga in a statement affirmed his commitment to support the USA, particularly the prosecution team as they proceed with the next phase of the case.
“To the family of the Late Margaret Mbitu, we offer our support and prayers,” said Ingonga.
Ingonga had previously assured the Federal Bureau Investigations (FBI) Director Christopher Wray in June 2024 that his office is keen to ensure justice is served.
When he fled to Kenya, Kang’ethe was in January this year but he escaped in a controversial way on February from Muthaiga Police Station where he was held for 30 days to allow further investigations.
He was re-arrested few days later in Ngong after a relative tipped off the police.
The court later ordered that he be detained at the Industrial Area Remand Prison where he remained until yesterday.
