Murang’a County has inaugurated a new dialysis centre at Kigumo Level 4 Hospital, aimed at supporting patients with chronic kidney disease in the region.
Governor Irungu Kang’ata announced that the centre currently has the capacity to serve 30 patients each week, specifically catering to residents from Kigumo, Kandara, Gatanga, Maragua, and parts of Kahuro sub-counties.
This facility is the second of its kind in the county, following the first dialysis centre established at Murang’a Level 5 Hospital in 2016.
The county collaborated with Benacare to make dialysis services more accessible, addressing the long-standing need for additional facilities.
The Kigumo centre is equipped with three machines, with plans to expand to a total of 12 machines by the end of the year, thanks to the partnership with Benacare.
Once fully operational, the facility aims to provide up to 60 dialysis sessions per week, and 17 patients have already been registered and begun receiving treatment.
