The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has taken a significant step to promote beach soccer by launching a beach soccer league in Kwale County.
The tournament, which is currently underway, features 16 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams—all drawn from across Kwale County—and is set to conclude in mid-August.
In a major boost for the competition, Kentaste Company has stepped in with a Ksh1 million sponsorship, underscoring growing corporate support for grassroots football.
FKF President Hussein Mohammed welcomed the initiative, calling it a milestone in the federation’s mission to strengthen local football and expand the sports ecosystem along Kenya’s coastline.
“This initiative reflects our renewed focus on empowering FKF branches to lead in grassroots football,” he said. “We are grateful to Kentaste for their support, which will enhance the development of beach soccer in Kwale and beyond. As Kenya prepares to host the CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship in June 2025, this league forms part of our long-term strategy to build a solid foundation for the sport.”
FKF Kwale Branch Chairman Hamisi Mwakoja emphasized the local impact of the league, highlighting the inclusion of women’s teams as a significant move toward inclusivity in sport. “We welcome this partnership as a boost to local football development,” he said.
Kentaste CEO Kyle Denning added: “Kentaste supports active, healthy living—values that align with sport. We’re proud to support a community-based tournament that helps young people grow through football.”
Kenya is scheduled to host the CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship from June 6 to 11, 2025, in Mombasa.
