Kenya Alliance Insurance Limited is under scrutiny after allegedly failing to pay a former employee over Sh10.6 million in earned commissions.
Godfrey Simboni, who worked as an independent agency manager in the Life Insurance and Pensions Division from March 2018 to November 2023, claims the company reneged on an agreement despite his instrumental role in securing a major deal.
In March 2021, Simboni pitched a proposal to the Board of Trustees of the Taita Taveta University Staff Retirement Benefit Scheme, promoting Kenya Alliance Insurance’s guaranteed pension fund management services.
With approval from the company, he successfully secured a contract worth Sh486,495,997 for Kenya Alliance.
Simboni oversaw the entire process, including guiding the tendering team in preparing a winning bid and ensuring all documentation was complete.
He also developed the work plan that led to the successful award of the tender.
According to Simboni, his efforts were supposed to be rewarded with a 2% commission on the total contract value, plus an additional 3% incentive commission.
“The finance department provided a tabulated summary of what I was owed, which was approved by both the senior accountant and the head of the Life and Pensions Department,” he said.
His total net commission, after taxes and deductions, was calculated at Sh24,072,701. Between December 2022 and January 2023, he received Sh13,381,555, leaving a balance of Sh10,691,149 unpaid.
“My attempts to recover the remaining amount have been blocked repeatedly. Executive Director Louise Ngugi and other managers have continued to frustrate me,” Simboni alleged.
He has warned potential clients to be cautious, citing dishonesty and lack of integrity within the company’s management.
