As protests reached climax in Kenya’s urban places, the government started attack on critics.

Using police, the Ruto government has been targeting Gen Zs, university students, bloggers and journalists and today they raided businessman Jimi Wanjigi’s Muthaiga home.

A contingent of police officers surrounded his home and later towed a Toyota Landcruiser Prado J150 purported to have been used to ferry weapons.

In the vehicle we have recovered four teargas canisters, two Motorola gadgets, seven assorted chargers for the pocket phones and one mobile phone,

Acting Inspector General of police Gilbert Masengeli said they are looking for Wanjigi after they allegedly recovered four teargas canisters, two Motorola gadgets, seven assorted chargers for the pocket phones and one mobile phone in the SUV.

They claim that the businessman allegedly facilitated several protesters to be dropped off at the Nairobi CBD.

This incident is not the first time Wanjigi’s properties have been raided by police.

In January 2022, heavily armed officers stormed his Westlands office in a similar raid but the most infamous episode occurred in October 2017 when his Muthaiga home was besieged by police, leading to a dramatic standoff that saw opposition leader Raila Odinga and his allies camp outside his home in solidarity.

During the 2017 raid, police claimed they recovered five AK-47 rifles and hundreds of rounds of ammunition from the Muthaiga home.
