Dr Peter Mbae with President William Ruto.

Dr. Peter Mbae has announced his resignation as Head of Government Delivery Services, citing ongoing challenges that have hindered his ability to effectively carry out his responsibilities.

In his resignation letter, Dr. Mbae expressed frustration over unresolved issues he had repeatedly raised with the government, particularly with Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei.

He stated, “It has not been possible to carry out my duties as intended, and my position as Head of Government Delivery Services is no longer tenable.”

Recognizing the public nature of his appointment, Dr. Mbae explained his decision to step down: “In order to be accountable to the people of Kenya, given the wide public attention surrounding this appointment, I request to formally disengage from this role to pursue other interests.”

Dr. Mbae, who was appointed in June 2024, was responsible for overseeing the implementation of government programs and projects across various ministries, departments, and agencies.

However, his time in office appears to have been marked by persistent challenges, many of which he claims were not addressed, leading to his resignation.

This move has raised questions about the internal dynamics within the government’s delivery services and the effectiveness of systems meant to resolve internal concerns.

Dr. Mbae’s resignation has also sparked conversations about the need for reforms to improve efficiency and accountability in government service delivery.

While Dr. Mbae has not disclosed his future plans, he has indicated intentions to explore other professional pursuits.
