Malawian football giants Nyasa Big Bullets have appointed Harambee Stars defender Clyde Senaji as their new captain ahead of the upcoming season.
Since joining the club in March 2023 from Tusker FC, the 28-year-old has steadily earned respect and recognition, eventually being named vice-captain for the 2024 season under then-head coach Kalisto Pasuwa.
In a statement released on the club’s official website, Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Peter Mponda highlighted Senaji’s leadership qualities and experience as key reasons for his promotion to captain.
“Clyde Senaji will be our captain. It wasn’t a difficult choice—he’s experienced and has strong leadership qualities. Having served as vice-captain last season, he is already familiar with the responsibility,” Mponda said.
Mponda further explained the club’s considerations when selecting the new captain.
“We wanted someone who could lead both on and off the pitch, and we are confident he is the right man for the job. As a leader, he will inspire his teammates to give their all for the badge,” Mponda added.
Additionally, Mponda announced Lloyd Aaron as Senaji’s deputy in the club’s revamped leadership structure.
Aaron captained the team in their pre-season friendly against Blue Eagles on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
Senaji’s new role is expected to play a pivotal part in the team’s pursuit of reclaiming the league title after finishing third with 55 points last season—12 points behind Silver Strikers, who claimed the title for the first time in 10 years.
Nyasa Big Bullets had previously dominated the Malawian league, securing five consecutive titles and seven in the last decade.
The 2025 Malawi Super League season kicks off this Saturday, with an exciting opening-day clash between Nyasa Big Bullets and defending champions Silver Strikers, who will host the match.
