Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi has called out Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga for what he describes as political contradictions in the Mt. Kenya region.
Wamumbi accused Kahiga, a former teacher, of publicly backing former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while secretly seeking the support of President William Ruto, Gachagua’s political rival.
The first-term legislator argued that Kahiga appears to align with Gachagua during the day but quietly courts Ruto behind the scenes.
“Mwalimu, be consistent. Stop playing both sides like a hyena, or you will end up getting torn apart,” Wamumbi told the Governor.
Wamumbi also questioned Kahiga’s criticism of those who oppose Gachagua, particularly his remarks about carrying a Bible. “How can you attack someone for carrying a Bible, and you’re saying that in church? What’s wrong with you people?” he asked.

Kahiga, who is serving his final term as governor, has been positioning himself as a vocal supporter of Gachagua. He has even threatened MPs from the region who supported Gachagua’s impeachment, as well as other leaders who oppose the former Deputy President.
On Sunday, Kahiga warned that anyone in the region who votes against Gachagua, who was recently impeached, would be branded a traitor.
He also warned that anyone appointed to a Cabinet Secretary position from the region should avoid establishing their office in Nyeri.
