As the former premier Raila Odinga focuses on campaigns for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson seat, he has delegated ODM party leadership to Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o.
The party announced today Nyong’o will lead the party during Raila’s absence.
“The Party Leader Raila Odinga has in consultations with the Central Management Committee of the Party designated the role of chairing the meetings to the Governor of Kisumu Anyang Nyong’o while he carries on with his campaign for the AUC Chairmanship” the party said in a statement.
Raila is seeking the coveted seat in the elections set for February next year.
Raila is contesting the seat against Djibouti Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssou, former Mauritius Foreign Minister Anil Kumarsingh Gayan and Richard James Randriamandrato, a former Madagascar Foreign Minister.
He is now traversing the continent seeking votes.
Last week on Monday he accompanied President William Ruto to Beijing China to seek backing from presidents who attended the China-Africa Cooperation Summit.
