The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has appointed Gerald Nyaoma Arita as its new Deputy Governor.
His tenure officially began in January following his appointment by President William Ruto in November 2024.
“Mr. Nyaoma returns to CBK after a long and distinguished career at the bank. He joined in August 1988 and held various senior positions in the Financial Markets, Banking Services, and Internal Audit Departments, eventually serving as the Director of the Bank Supervision Department,” CBK stated in a press release.
Following his appointment by President Ruto, Nyaoma’s name was forwarded to the National Assembly Finance Committee for vetting.
The committee, led by Kuria Kimani, approved Nyaoma’s nomination, paving the way for his approval by the Senate.
With a 36-year career at CBK, Nyaoma began as a management trainee in 1988 and rose to the position of Director of Supervision before leaving the bank.

“It is an honour and a pleasure to welcome him back to the Central Bank of Kenya,” CBK Governor Kamau Thugge said on Tuesday.
Nyaoma will serve alongside Susan Koech, who also holds the position of Deputy Governor at CBK.
