George Koimburi, the Member of Parliament for Juja and an ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Reports indicate that Koimburi was apprehended outside his home on Tuesday morning and taken to the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road for questioning.
The arrest follows Koimburi’s earlier claims that the government spent approximately Sh13 billion supporting Raila Odinga’s bid during the African Union Commission (AUC) elections.
He was reportedly detained shortly after leaving his residence on Kenyatta Road in Juja.
Before his arrest, the MP stated that two Subaru vehicles were parked outside his house and that DCI officers arrested him before transporting him to the Kiambu Road facility.
Koimburi’s arrest comes amid increasing political tensions following Kenya’s unsuccessful bid for the AUC chairmanship.
As a vocal critic of the government, the MP had raised concerns over the alleged campaign spending, fueling ongoing political debate.
As of now, the police have yet to issue an official statement regarding the arrest.
