Commonwealth Games champion Ferdinand Omanyala secured third place at the Athletics South Africa (ASA) Grand Prix I at Pilditch Stadium in Pretoria on Wednesday evening.

Omanyala clocked 10.22 seconds in the men’s 100m, with Letebele Karabo winning the race in 10.19 seconds.

In a closely contested finish, local sprinter Erasmus Emile also recorded a time of 10.19, edging out Omanyala for second place.

Kenyan sprinter Mark Otieno narrowly missed a podium finish, coming in fourth with a time of 10.39.

Both Omanyala and Otieno were competing in their first international races of the year.

Omanyala’s last international appearance was in September 2024, where he won the men’s 100m in Brussels with a time of 10.07.

Otieno’s most recent competition outside Kenya was in August 2024 at the Wieslaw Maniak Memorial in Poland, where he finished third with a time of 10.60.
