Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has refuted claims that the government has reinstated cut-off points for university admissions.
In a recent statement, Ogamba clarified that all 246,391 students who attained a C+ and above in the 2024 KCSE exams are eligible for university placement under the existing criteria.
“The government has not reintroduced cut-off points for university admissions. The minimum requirement for the 2024 KCSE cohort remains a mean grade of C+,” Ogamba explained.
The CS also addressed concerns surrounding university funding, confirming that only Sh25.85 billion is required to support the 2024 KCSE cohort’s higher education, contrary to the earlier speculated figure of Sh100 billion.
He clarified that the Sh100 billion figure refers to the total cost spread over a four-year period.
Furthermore, Ogamba announced that the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) will open the university placement portal for the September 2025 intake in March.
