Death toll from Hillside Endarasha Academy rises to 17 pupils

Death toll at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kieni West, Nyeri county has reached 17 pupils.

About 14 others have been hospitalised with serious injuries after fire broke out in one of the dormitories at night.

The affected dormitory housed boys from grade four to eight. 156 pupils were in the dormitory.

The pupils were burnt beyond recognition but the cause of fire is yet to be established.

A team of police officers led by Deputy Director of CID John Onyango and Director of Homicide Martin Nyuguto has travelled to Nyeri to investigate the tragedy.
