Dennis Wafula Wanabisi, a police officer with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), was arraigned yesterday at the Makindu Law Courts, facing charges related to two separate incidents of robbery with violence in Mtito Andei on July 22 last year.
Wanabisi, who is stationed at DCI Kibwezi, was arrested by detectives from the Serious Crimes Unit, in collaboration with investigators from DCI Ruiru.
The court granted a 14-day custodial order to allow investigators to finalize their inquiry.
The robberies occurred in July 2024 when police responded to reports of two violent incidents at Yikisaya Trading Centre in Kibwezi Sub-County.
A gang of four men, wearing jungle uniforms and armed with a pistol, stormed 021 CLUB, threatening both bar attendants and customers while demanding their valuables.
During the robbery, one bar attendant was shot in the stomach and seriously injured, and the gang made off with Sh50,000 in cash.
The suspects then proceeded to Darajani Shopping Centre, where they forcibly entered Seton Night Club.
After firing two shots into the air, they stole Sh25,850 and two mobile phones from bar attendants and customers.
Preliminary investigations revealed a potential link between Officer Wanabisi and the robberies, leading to the confiscation of his firearm.
The spent cartridges recovered from the crime scenes were sent for ballistic examination at DCI Headquarters, and the results confirmed that they matched the ammunition fired from Wanabisi’s weapon.
