David Moyes in talks to return to Everton as manager

David Moyes is in talks with Everton over a potential return to Goodison Park following the sacking of manager Sean Dyche.

Although no deal has been finalized and Moyes is not the sole candidate, he is currently regarded as the leading contender for the role.

Discussions are said to be progressing, but Everton may be running out of time to complete the appointment before Friday evening.

Dyche was dismissed on Thursday with the club sitting 16th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone. The Toffees have won only three of their 19 league matches this season.

Moyes, who managed Everton from 2002 to 2013 before a brief and unsuccessful spell at Manchester United, has since enjoyed two stints at West Ham. He guided the Hammers to the Europa Conference League title in 2023 but has been out of work since leaving the club at the end of last season.

Recently, Moyes confirmed he was not ready to retire from management but made it clear he did not want to take on a role “fighting relegation.”

When Moyes left Everton for Manchester United in 2013, he left behind a club that was the epitome of stability.

Over his 11-year tenure, he transformed Everton from Premier League strugglers to European contenders, even securing a spot in the Champions League qualifying rounds in 2005.
