Boiling point: Why Gor Mahia coach Mihic stormed out at Dandora Stadium

Gor Mahia were held to a 1-1 draw by Sofapaka at Dandora Stadium on Saturday in a dramatic Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League clash that ended in controversy.

The game was marred by chaotic scenes after Gor Mahia head coach Sinisa Mihic, who was serving a touchline ban, stormed out of the stadium in protest before the final whistle.

The Croatian tactician was suspended following his sending-off in a previous match against Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) two weeks ago.

Clearly frustrated, Mihic left the venue visibly angry over what he believed was a delayed response from his technical bench regarding substitutions.

The responsibility for in-game decisions had fallen to assistant coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno, who is reported to have disregarded Mihic’s instructions.

Footage circulating on social media shows Mihic in a heated exchange with security personnel and stewards before angrily exiting the stadium.

On the pitch, Gor Mahia looked poised for victory after Joshua Onyango nodded in a well-placed header from an Austin Odhiambo free-kick in the 68th minute — a deserved lead after Benson Omalla had earlier seen his goal ruled out for offside.

However, their hopes were dashed in stoppage time when Douglas Kibet found the equaliser from close range, salvaging a point for Sofapaka.

The result leaves Gor Mahia third on the log with 47 points from 26 matches, two points behind Police FC who have played a game more.
