The body of a Kenyan police officer who was killed in Haiti while on patrol is set to be repatriated between March 4 and 6, according to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.
The officer was fatally shot on February 23 after suspected gang members ambushed a police patrol.
Speaking at a Sunday service in Kajiado East, where the officer’s family had gathered for prayers, Kanja assured them that all logistical arrangements for the return of the officer’s body had been finalized.
He offered condolences to the officer’s father, Mzee Kaetuai Lesaru Saash, describing his son as a hero who sacrificed his life while working to restore peace in Haiti.
“The government and the Police Department will stand with the family during this difficult time,” Kanja said.

He was joined by senior police officers and local leaders, who, along with the community and church members, mourned the officer’s passing.
Kenya has deployed over 600 police officers to Haiti as part of the UN-backed Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission, with plans to send a total of 1,000 officers.
