Kenya’s Agnes Ngetich delivered yet another historic performance on Saturday morning, setting a new women-only world record in the 10km at the Adizero Road to Records event in Herzogenaurach, Germany.
Ngetich stormed to victory in an astonishing time of 29:27, becoming the first woman in history to break the 30-minute barrier in a women-only 10km race.
She finished well ahead of Ethiopia’s Fentaye Belayneh and Senayet Getachew, who both clocked 30:30 to take second and third place respectively.
The 24-year-old’s record-breaking run is the latest chapter in a remarkable run of form. In January 2024, she set the overall 10km world record with a stunning 28:46 at the Valencia Ibercaja, officially recognized as the fastest time ever run by a woman over the distance.
Later in October, she narrowly missed breaking the half marathon world record at the Valencia Half Marathon, posting a blistering 1:03:04—one of the fastest times ever recorded.
Her impressive form has continued into 2025. In February, she dominated the women’s 10km race at the Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country Tour in Eldoret, clocking 32:42.
Ngetich also competed at the first leg of the Grand Slam series in Kingston, Jamaica, in March, where she took second place in both the 3000m (8:28.75) and 5000m (14:59.80), further underlining her versatility across distances.
With her latest achievement in Germany, Ngetich cements her status as one of the most exciting talents in women’s distance running today.
