The Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) has approved the proposed acquisition of 100% shareholding in Pollman’s Tours and Safaris by Africa Travel Investments.
Africa Travel, a Europe-based company with no current commercial operations in Kenya, is acquiring Pollman’s, a Kenyan-registered tour operator known for offering guided safaris and travel packages through travel agents and tour operators.
The CAK noted that the transaction will not alter market dynamics, as the two entities are not direct competitors. “Pollman’s and Africa Travel operate in distinct markets.
Therefore, the structure and concentration of the tour operator sector in Kenya will remain unchanged,” CAK said in a statement issued Wednesday.
The regulator concluded that the deal poses no risk to market competition, stating, “The proposed transaction will not lead to a substantial lessening or prevention of competition in the markets for tour operators in Kenya.”
According to the Kenya Association of Tour Operators (KATO), the local market currently consists of 322 active tour operators.
