StarTimes Media is stepping up its content strategy as it seeks to strengthen its presence in Kenya’s pay-TV market and grow its subscriber base.
The company on Tuesday announced the premiere of two new telenovelas scheduled to air this March on Novela E Plus — It’s Okay to Not Be Okay and the highly anticipated Season 3 of Gangs of Manila.
According to Myke Mwai, Head of PR and Content Syndication, the new titles reflect StarTimes’ commitment to offering compelling stories that attract new audiences while keeping existing viewers engaged.
It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, which premieres on March 16 at 9:40 PM, follows the life of a devoted caregiver dealing with personal struggles as he looks after his mother who is battling Alzheimer’s disease.
Meanwhile, Season 3 of Gangs of Manila, set to premiere on March 28 at 8:50 PM, delivers high-intensity drama as it plunges viewers into the dark and dangerous criminal underworld of Manila.
Mwai said the introduction of the new series highlights StarTimes’ content-led growth strategy, aimed at enriching its programming line-up.
“Investing in premium content remains central to StarTimes’ mission of delivering quality entertainment while expanding our subscriber base. These productions not only tell powerful stories but also help us engage audiences, build viewer loyalty, and strengthen our position in the pay-TV market,” he said.
He added that the company has continued to invest heavily in content promotion and marketing to increase viewership, boost customer retention, and attract new subscribers across Kenya and the wider East African region.
Mwai noted that the strategy reflects the company’s recognition of content as a key driver of growth, positioning StarTimes as a leading player in the region’s pay-TV industry.
“By prioritizing diverse and high-quality storytelling, supported by strong promotional campaigns, we are able to enhance brand value, expand market share, and maintain the trust of our viewers,” he added.
